"<br /><br />This is the problem of a lot of narratives that parade as fact - it isn't possible to know a lot of things without knowing the evolutionary history of biology.<br /><br />That being said - the way to proceed is to always clearly state what is a working narrative vs stuff we really know.<br /><br />I can be somewhat comfortable in knowing I don't know something, but there is a huge push, particularly in medical stuff, to pretend knowledge of the unknowable. (No one wants to hear their doctor say they don't understand the illness that one has.. )<br /><br />There needs to be a name for the fallacy of knowledge of the unknowable -- can't find it.<br /><br />As hunter gatherers - seeing false positive patterns was not a big problems - thinking you saw game kept one looking.
