Congratulations to your whole family, Peter. Looking forward to learning which cute nickname you give her, but I'm guessing it won't be Muffin ;-).

Congratulations!

Do you feel like sharing with the world the age of your wife? Curious passers-by might like to know as diet and age seem to be the two things most affecting fertility...

Best wishes for a happy household.

Peter, I remember a discussion here some time ago about centenarians having high fertility. You said you were not there yet. Maybe that is changing!

Interestingly, Dr. Kwasniewski seems to believe that the high fat diet reduces fertility so that most of the nomadic people (typically high fat) were quickly outnumbered by the farming settlers (high carb).

Stan - By reduced fertility do you mean infrequent menstrual cycles with a long reproductive age ?

Congrats Peter, your daughter is beautiful she looks like a little angel.

Regarding stan's comments...

Fat improves fertility. It's shown in studies that women with hypothalamic amenorrhea eat low fat diets and fertility can be improved by increasing dietary fat. Dietary fat is necessary for sex steroids to be formed and to function correctly. Dietary fat when added to carbohydrate will increase insulin thus leptin level, and leptin is central to female fertility.

Low carb eating, however, reduces fertility. It leads to a loss of body fat, a reduction of insulin, and a reduction of leptin, all of which harm female fertility. The only time low carb eating will improve female fertilty is if she has PCOS or subclinical syndrome, which is an abnormal state. In normal female physiology, a reduction in carbohydrate reduces female fertility, which only makes sense as low carbohydrate availability indicates famine. It is possible to be fertile on a low carb diet (of course) but fertility is always improved by the addition of more carbohydrate and calories.

What incredible magic this is!!! All of that saturated fat transformed into such a beauty. Congrats to you and mother and child. To us all, a great Holiday Season!

Thank you everyone,

She is a very contented baby and when we get in to a house closer to my work, early next year, this should free up nearly two hours of what is currently drive time.

Once we have gotten unpacked and sorted and stuff segregated for re-storage and.... that is!

Best wishes to all for the Solstice, Christmas and the New Year. Days are drawing out already
