ROS and cell to cell signalling in plants

The people who wrote this review are plant biologists. Nothing wrong with that and they've been doing some fairly deep thinking about reactive oxygen species signalling.

ROS signaling: the new wave?

In this paper I'd like to just run through the images in Fig 1 from Box 1 with some sort of commentary.

This is an ancestral organism. It could represent LUCA, which has implications about what LUCA might have needed to do to deal with ROS. Under conditions of rising oxygen tension (or even without rising oxygen tension) there is the need for basic ROS scavenging simply to survive. Any organism which couldn't do this has not left descendants:

If you want to maximise your chances of survival then the co-opting of some sort of protein as an ROS receptor provides an advantage. A better controlled response to suppress ROS to acceptable levels becomes possible without wasting  resources on excessive scavenging systems. The little horse-shoes are the receptors:

This review is from 2015, at which time ROS generation by bacteria was thought to be limited to "accidental" release during photosynthesis by cyanobacteria. Obviously this is no longer the case but anyway, we can think of the blue circle as representing an organism or cell as part of the same organism capable of generating and releasing significant ROS, which our golden organism might not like and might dedicate another sensing/quenching system to:

If the sensing system turns out to be carrying useful information about the neighbouring organism/cell our golden cell might consider it worth the NADPH to send a signal back. Maybe a "come on" signal, maybe a "bugger off" signal. But ROS based too. Here we are talking eukaryotes as the ROS generator (in this review) is considered to be one of the NADPH oxidases (NOX), the small red bauble, which does not appear to be coded for in prokaryote genomes:

Assuming that cell-cell signalling proves helpful, the system can go on to develop as many responses as is useful to survival:

Back to plant biology. This next image summarises what the group thinks happens in groups of plant cells, this time taken from Figure 1 of the text proper:

And because they are plant biologists, and because plants sit still (on a human timescale) when you kick them, here is what happens when you "hurt" or injure an Arabidopsis plant, illustrated using an fluorescence probe. There is a luciferase gene spliced in to the ROS generating machinery. Note the timescales:

So plants appear to signal within the organism, on a timescale which is appropriate to their needs, using ROS and ROS receptors. I've been curious about how an oak tree root hair might signal to the top of the canopy. Even for a plant speed of communication needing several days might be too slow.

Is it possible to convert a localised ROS signal to an organism-wide information network signal?

Maybe.

Hi Peter, Nice to see you back on track! Me? Still unjabbed as well. Hey, ho. The snipers have slunk back to the Bar but for how long? They will flip with denial and offer up a shoe-horned leitmotif that best suits them, but they have had the jabby to forever remind them of their gullibility (me? I'm not anti-vaxx, but I am getting there. Slowly.). The mRNA jabbed-up will most assuredly get captured by the next lockstep wave of bullshit. Maybe more WEF clap-trap pushing their Munchausen Syndrome by policy ("vee know vot is best for you, oh, and of course, for us too. Hee, hee, hee!"). Anyway, ROS? Its evolutions way is it not in that given any opportunity a 'something' WILL wrangle a way into existence. Fauci and Daszak did. I would think any ROS-like evidence is looooong gone.

You still have to wonder if we are watching the collapse of our current civilisation real-time and in moderate slo-mo... What we'll do to replace people to pay taxes if the current fall in live-births continues is anyone's guess. Perhaps we'll just print more money and pretend it's real.

There is a lot of 'deadwood' in the material system that we have arrived at (thank you China), but perversely, the system does compellingly drive such (witness the Xmas shopathon), but what will they do without the deadwood and declining birthrate? Maybe we will be overwhelmed by 3rd world migrants who seem to believe that breeding for a pension is the answer to all of our economic woes.

Anyway, I posted this on MK's blog. I think he gets a bit annoyed with me from time to time, but I think it had some merit in posting, but I think I may have been usurped by Ron De Santis!

Hmmm… This from the Website of Jamie Metzl (founder of DRASTIC):

“Just as we wouldn’t imagine having a plane crash and not immediately trying to figure out what happened, we can’t let the COVID-19 crisis unfold without urgently understanding how our systems have so spectacularly failed. There are plenty of fingers to point, and we must thoughtfully point them now, at all of us, for our own good. For all we know, a new and even worse pandemic could begin even before we have overcome this one… Until we get to the bottom of all these failures and work to fix them, we remain dangerously susceptible to the next pandemic… Whatever the origins of the outbreak, including the possibility of an accidental leak from the Chinese virology lab in Wuhan, China’s dangerous and ongoing information suppression activities are the foundations of this crisis.”

We have 5 big plays ongoing at the moment

1. Covid/vaccines/Big Pharma (scare-compliance and lots and lots of cashflow moola… ‘out of nowhere’). A Banking-Big Pharma reward scheme

2. Climate Change (a Universal tax system?). Basic tax gathering

3. Ukraine (a sleeping asset so great it’s worth destroying just to re-build it alone). Oil, Gas, Banking-Military-Industrial Complex reward(s) straight of the top

4. WEF & the political-class ‘gangsters’ (a cull by Munchausen Syndrome by policy?). A Geo-political bean-fest of manifestos and mandates.

5. Where goes Twitter? (a war between Musk & Gates)??

Sadly I suspect we'll all find out over the next few years... There are conspiracy theories that the next pandemic is already planned as an enterovirus targeting predominantly children.

Surely not.

Hi again Peter, The next few years might be coming sooner than expected...

BRICS News: "I say... by George (Orwell) I think they've got it!"

Saudia Arabia (and Egypt and the UAE) has joined BRICS, but they didn’t only join BRICS. They also joined the SCO, which is sort of Russia and China’s budding alternative to NATO. And the Saudis also signed a $30 billion oil deal with China. In other words, oil-rich Saudi Arabia just went all-in with Russia and China.

BRICS, of course, stands for the original five member countries: Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. It intends to create a world reserve standard currency to replace the dollar. Before you scoff too quickly, note that the proposed new world currency would be backed by GOLD.

Will they be using Quickbooks like SBF and FTX?

We have our own brand of fear porn, I guess. This is pretty terrifying. https://chrisbray.substack.com/p/ubiquitous-federal-nudge-platoons

(For those were unaware, in the US, April 15 is Tax Day).

I think it is now clear that ROS is part of normal signalling. Two things to consider:

1 - If the dietary anti-ox supplements they are pushing actually supressed ROS it would be a bad-thing(tm)..

2 - Consider metal exposure (like low levels of lead(PB)) - Many metals are toxic as they were originally THE enzymes of early life - later incorporated in a protein that runs enzymatic feed-back loops. Which metal is at the center of the ROS feed back loop?

@captain Sunset
My friend that worked in down-hole-electronics in the Ukraine tells me it has been all about money laundering for a long time now (almost a decade) Money comes in - but a bunch comes back to the US to buy influence to bring more money. It is just a small number at the top running the horror show - at great cost to the little people. They voted down any oversight Management - no one in congress lives on their salary anymore.

@Karl, I'm with you all the way, buddy. To me, it's basically malfeasant psychopaths egged on by fatuous toddy bureaucRATS. Nothing displays so well today as that of the facile Fauci.

I'm at one with the ROS idea, and I relish everyone's input here. Also, I look up to the likes of Peter with his veterinary background, and more so with his pragmatic take on Cov spp. Anyway, I've recently found a guy who seems to have got the measure of CoV, and of vaccines: Dr. Joseph Lee https://lungvirus.com/ Dr Lee has also done a blog-chat with Dr Kevin McCairn https://rumble.com/v21hdz4-streaming-with-dr.-joseph-lee-md-www.lungvirus.com.html which is long, but resonates with me.

Speaking of veterinary science… Remember the cow diapers? Pah! Many jaw-dropping items in this article. Vaccination is the new religion.

"Cows and other ruminant animals have microbes living in their digestive system that generate methane. ArkeaBio and other researchers are working on vaccines that trigger cows to generate antibodies to those microbes." https://www.fastcompany.com/90824840/vaccine-cows-methane-emissions

Because, what could possibly go wrong?

Now, if they would start working on a vaccine to nullify the CO2 emissions from volcanoes…

I'll take the thread jacks further. How can Dolphins and other small whales get Alzheimers? Their food is certainly low sugar and low carb and low in plant PUFA. Can all those fish PUFA have a detrimental effect, even in the absence of carbs?

Cavenewt, I believe the Hunga Tonga volcanic eruption earlier this year may have been caused by a pharmaceutical experiment.

I think we are right at the point of Solstice as I write, thursday for me, wednesday for most of you lot. Happy dancing around totem poles if that is your thing. Let's see what the next year brings.

Peter, your fear of the end of civilisation as we know it, well, perhaps some bits of c.a.w.k.i. could well do with fading away: the sociopaths and psychopaths who push us into wars for fun and profit, most politicians, financiers, giant companies plus a long list of other candidates.

Btw, Eric, I wouldnt want to live in the sea with all the billions of tonnes of pollution that humans pour into it. Fish oil would be the least of your problems. My personal question about ocean pollution is: Where do all the (tens of) thousands of barnacle encrusted thongs come from that wash up on our southern beaches???

Passthecream said...

( thongs = rubber footwear).

Eric said...

Thanks for the clarification. I would have been very puzzled without it :)

cavenewt said...

Passthecream: do you have a link to that pharmaceutical experiment? I want to write to my congressman about it.

There's nothing like living at the foot of an east-facing 600-foot cliff to turn one into a obligate druid. I celebrated yesterday.

Despite your footwear clarification, I'm going to have long-term unfortunate visions.

Passthecream said...

CN it was kept very hush-hush.
